¿Quieres formarte como especialista en relaciones internacionales y comerciales con el Noreste Asiático? ¿Te gustaría ampliar tus conocimientos sobre la cultura coreana?

La Universidad de Málaga, a través de la Oficina UMA-ATECH Puente con Corea, se complace en presentar el nuevo Diploma de Especialización en Relaciones Corea-Noreste Asiático, España y Latinoamérica. Este nuevo título, tiene la intención de formar expertos que puedan entender, analizar y desarrollar relaciones entre estas tres regiones, de forma que fomenten la interconectividad entre ellas.

El contenido del Diploma se ha estructurado en 5 módulos fundamentales para el máximo aprovechamiento académico por parte del alumnado, de una forma transversal e interdisciplinar. De esta forma, queda en la mano del estudiante orientar sus contenidos al ámbito profesional, en el marco de las relaciones Noreste Asiático-Iberoamérica, o adentrarse en el panorama de la investigación en Estudios de Asia Oriental.

Los módulos que componen el diploma son:
  • Módulo 1: Relaciones Internacionales y Transculturales.
  • Módulo 2: Las dos Coreas en el Contexto de Asia Pacífico.
  • Módulo 3: Relaciones Económicas y Comerciales.
  • Módulo 4: Industrias Culturales de Corea en el Contexto de las nuevas tecnologías.
  • Módulo 5: Investigación en Estudios Coreanos y del Noreste Asiático.

Situations: Cultural Studies in the Asian Context, a SCOPUS-indexed journal published at Yonsei University, is pleased to announce its second annual competition for its Emerging Scholar Award, which will be given to the best submission about any aspect of Asian culture written by a graduate student or a post-doctoral researcher.

It can apply to any innovation in how people transact business, from the invention of digital money to double-entry bookkeeping. Since the internet and smartphone revolution, Fintech has grown explosively. It originally referred to computer technology applied to the back office of banks or trading firms, now describes a broad variety of technological interventions into personal and commercial business. 

2020 ISBASS creates a platform for researchers, professionals and students to present their recent and latest researches and to share their thoughts and to discuss the future development in, but not limited to the fields of Business and Social Sciences. Join us on the 7th-9th of January, 2020 in Seoul, Korea.

“European Studies in Asian Art and Archaeology”

The EAAA Monograph Series “European Studies in Asian Art and Archaeology” offers in-depth and peer-reviewed scholarly contributions to topics relevant to Asian Art and Archaeology that consider subjects in a broader Asian context. The goal of this series is to analyze and interpret the social and artistic histories and heritages in Asian societies from ancient to contemporary context. This series, therefore, contributes a deeper understanding of the cultural, philosophical, political, religious and ideological values of Asia.

The Editorial Board is currently inviting proposals for the third volume. We seek an innovative book proposal that will raise new research questions as well as challenge or open up innovative theoretical and methodological pathways in the fields of art history and Asian Studies.

The first volume of “European Studies in Asian Art and Archaeology”, “Production, Distribution and Appreciation: New Aspects on East Asian Lacquer Wares” (Brill, 2018), focused on various aspects of Asian lacquer art ranging from the 2nd century BC to the 17th century AD. Authors in this volume addressed recent excavations of lacquer ware from tombs in China, the distribution of lacquer objects throughout the Eurasian hemisphere, the significance of lacquer ware in everyday life, the technical aspects of lacquer production in Korea and the appreciation of Japanese lacquer in Asia and Europe. The second volume, “China in Europe: Performance, Material Culture and Display 1600-1900,” deals with the introduction of Chinese objects to Europe, their reception and, consequently, their imitation known as chinoiseries. Various topics being studied include kraak porcelain, tin-glazed tiles with Chinese imagery, masqued balls at Louis XIV’s court, the ambiguity of representations à la Chinoise, illusionist wall- painting, garden planning and Cantonese export paintings. etc. The volume will be published in 2020.

Scholars of Asian art and archaeology from Europe and beyond are invited to submit their proposals that engage the fields of art and archaeology of China, Japan, Korea, South and Central Asia as well as Asian transregional and transnational studies.

 
Proposals should include an abstract of the volume, name of authors (+ affiliation, a short CV of max. 100 words), titles and abstracts of individual papers/chapters.

CFP: KFLC, THE LANGUAGES, LITERATURES, AND CULTURES CONFERENCE 2020

 

KFLC; The Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Conference 2020


The KFLC is proud to open sessions devoted to the presentation of scholarly research in the area of East Asian Studies.  Abstracts are invited in all areas and aspects of this field, including, but not limited to:
  • Class, gender, ethnicity/race
  • Colonialism and Diaspora
  • Memory, violence, and nation
  • Popular culture in global markets
  • Performance, agency, and identity
  • Ethics of literary-cultural studies
  • Classical literature; new readings
  • Media studies, music studies, film studies
  • Social movements – justice, citizenship, and resistance
  • The avant-garde – arts in contexts
  • Body, space, and the public sphere
  • The politics of writing – writing within/against culture
Paper presentations are 20 minutes followed by a 10-minute question & answer session. In addition to individual abstracts for paper presentations, proposals for panels of 5 papers will be considered.  


The KFLC has a tradition of attracting scholars from a broad range of languages and specializations. This year’s conference will have sessions in Arabic and Islamic Studies, Classical Studies, East Asian Studies, French and Francophone Studies, German-Austrian-Swiss Studies, Hispanic Linguistics, Hispanic Studies (Spanish Peninsular and Spanish American), Indigenous and Endangered Languages, Intercultural Studies, Italian Studies, Hebrew and Jewish Studies, Language Studies for the Professions, Linguistics, Lusophone Studies, Neo-Latin Studies, Russian and Slavic Studies, Second Language Acquisition, and Translation Studies.

Submitted abstracts should be no more than 250 words.

Panel proposals of 5 presentations should be submitted as follows:
The panel organizer should electronically submit a panel proposal.  The panel proposal cannot exceed one page in length and should include the theme of the panel, the organizer's name and contact information, and the names, contact information and affiliations of the panel participants.

Each participant MUST submit an individual abstract using our online system in addition to the panel proposal.  Please indicate that your presentation is part of a pre-organized panel and list the title and organizer of the panel in the abstract.

Be sure that your paper or panel is prepared according to the track’s guidelines including, but not limited to, the format and the language of presentation. Acceptance of a paper or complete panel implies a commitment on the part of all participants to register and attend the conference. All presenters must pay the appropriate registration fee by April 1st, 2020 to be included in the program. Failure to pay by this deadline will result in the immediate removal of your abstract from the conference program. We will attempt to contact you multiple times before removing your presentation.

Call for Papers ASAA 2020

Organised by an interdisciplinary committee, the ASAA 2020 conference is open to scholars, students and community members with an interest in Asia. The conference will be held at and sponsored by the University of Melbourne from 6-9 July 2020.

The theme of our conference is Future Asias.

Global recognition of the multiplicity of Asian communities, within Asia and in diverse Asian diasporas, including those in Australia, highlights the plurality of Asian identities. The dynamism of the Asian region is acknowledged across the disciplines. The organisers of ASAA 2020 ask that presenters explore this diversity and past or contemporary understandings of Asia, to reflect on where these plural Future Asias are headed.

We will be organising a series of roundtable discussions on the following interdisciplinary themes. Individual paper and Panel submissions related to these themes are particularly welcomed.

The ASAA encourages submissions from postgraduate scholars.

Heidelberg Dissertation Workshops and European-U.K. Research Travel Stipends 


Heidelberg University, Institute for East Asian Art History announces dissertation workshops for graduate students in the fields of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Art History, with the goal of expanding the opportunities of the next generation of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean art history scholars—both through access to international resources and by concentrating on skills to strengthen written argumentation and cross-cultural communication. 15 selected Ph.D. candidates will have the opportunity to spend 3 weeks in Europe and the U.K. The program will be divided into 3 parts: 
  1. participants will receive dissertation guidance and feedback on a presentation and a chapter from an international team of professors during a 5 days intensive workshop;
  2. during the next 12 days, doctoral candidates will visit major collections of their own choosing based on dissertation research needs (itinerary and appointments organized in advance of workshop); and
  3. in the final 2 days, participants will return to Heidelberg to discuss their successes and challenges in using European resources, how their goals may have altered, and next steps.  Program Directors: Professors Sarah E. Fraser and Lothar Ledderose, Heidelberg University.

During the second year, the workshop will focus on archaeology, Buddhist art, and ceramics under the guidance of Professors Lukas Nickel (Vienna), Melanie Trede (Heidelberg), Lothar von Falkenhausen (UCLA), in addition to Ledderose and Fraser (Heidelberg). Students submitting applications in other areas of inquiry and expertise may also be considered. Graduate Participants will receive travel stipends to conduct research between Workshop Parts I and II. Roundtrip travel to Germany, housing and some workshop meals also provided. Supported by generous funding by The Getty Foundation, Connecting Art Histories Program.

We are delighted to announce the 10th International Lay Buddhist Forum to be held in Seoul and Gyeongju, South Korea, October 22-26, 2020, organized by the Korean Chongji (총지) order under the guidance of Bodhimitra ILBF president, Dr Hwaling Lee.

The theme of this year’s forum is “Practical Buddhism”.

Under this umbrella, Bodhimitra ILBF aims to collect reflexive perspectives on the application of Buddhist teachings and practices to daily life, social advocacy and welfare (including Socially Engaged and Humanistic 人生 Buddhist perspectives).
